The yuletide is fast approaching and this year, themed the Year of the Return, will see Ghana host more tourists than usual. With the in-flow of foreigners comes an avenue to make wealth and one of such avenues is through events to make the festive period one to remember.
Many are the events to attend this December and it is often believed that to enjoy this month, you’d require a gargantuan sum; thanks to this piece, we would explore and strategize on how to better enjoy December in the Year of the Return, on budget. Family events, raves and club sessions seem to stand out.
With just a few days before 2019 comes to a close, family time is highly advised; hence the following R-rated events.
The good news is you do not have to attend them all because it still remains, turning up on budget. A family event to look out for is Love Affair, an annual charity event slated to be held at the Efua Sutherland Children’s park on December 28, 2019. This is a free entry program which means more cash to be spent buying goodies for the kids.
The Annex is another program making the waves and believe me when I say it is a must to show up. A scene where all age groups can have their share of fun. The gathering is aimed at bringing together the best food, drinks and music from various vendors as well as art works. An all day event which is scheduled to be held at the Trade Fair Courtyard from the 23rd December through to 2nd January,2020, The Annex will serve your Christmas enthusiasm as it seeks to provide food, music and art, in one space. Do endeavour to add to your list of places to be.
Christmas time is family time and it should be noted that not all families are about the loud,open-space fun. Such families are not left out of the celebrations. Citrus Restaurant and Lounge, situated at East Legon, near the AnC Mall is serving us a ‘Citrus Christmas’.
The special Christmas lunch which has on offer meals ranging from Ghc70-Ghc100(price range is for either 2 course or 3 course meals). This deal began on 5th December, 2019 and will come to a close on 20th December,2019. Give your family a treat at affordable prices.
Let’s be honest, fun with family is a different kind of fun but as youthful people, we deserve our own fun. We’ve earned it. A semester has ended, organizations are going on break, friends and family (especially cousins in the diaspora) are coming back home and we’re eager to turn up with them and most especially show them how we do.
What better way to do that, if not by signing up for the sought-after events of this season. One of such events is the highly anticipated Afronation. We have seen and heard the hype this event has had in Europe and we are all for it being hosted in Ghana. Four days of fun, thrill, delight, adventure and even pleasure.
Four days of all our favorite acts across the globe coming together on one stage to serve us entertainment like never before. Majority in anticipation of this event, have saved and budgeted and are still re-structing their budget to be a part of this historic encounter. Guess what? You do not have to present during the four days this event is slated for.
Thankfully, artistes line-up has been released which can help guide and advise your choice on which day to attend. Frankly speaking, you can only have a few favorites and you only have so much energy. Between 27th-30th December, there’s a mighty wave going to hit the shores of Laboma Beach and choosing where your pocket agrees to send you is a great skill to have this month.
From the beach straight to the field. Afrochella. This event has been a constant jam since its inception two December’s ago and in this Year of Return, we are here for everything it has to offer. The artiste line-up, the platform to fuse our Africanness with modern fashion is always an exciting scene. 28th December is the date and the El Wak Sport Stadium is the venue. Let’s be informed that the organizers of Afrochella together with the British High Commission has issued an open call to British-Ghanaian artists to join their stand at the Afrochella pavilion.
The key requirement is to be a ‘unique storyteller whose work embodies their heritage and resonates with a diverse audience. Deadline for application is December 20, 2019. Boxing Day is usually for the distribution of Christmas presents but out here, we do not particularly indulge in that which is why you have to spend the day at Serallio. On 26th December, 2019 the venue which is popularly known for BYOB (Bring Your Own Bottle) which is usually held on Fridays will be having a Carnival themed Day Party. The occasion which is expected to be colorful with lots of activities will be another reminder on why we love this season. Thought I left out club events? No. A little of everything keep sorrow at bay and keeps the mind, body and soul refreshed. Kindly endeavour to check out the Pitch Lounge.
The newly opened lounge can be found at Oyeeman rooftop, Airport. The Pitch as a hangout destination appeals not only to eyes but to every sense of yours. From the color scheme right down to arrangements and themes would you entertained throughout. The lounge is active in the year of Return from now until 2nd January, 2020. Do pass by in your finest outfit, inhale the best of Accra. While having fun, take amazing photos and do not forget to tag them on Instagram @pitch_accra.
Conclusion: Some people may have the notion that to enjoy the fun December has to offer, you should be everywhere; go hard or stay home. Although there may be some truth to this, it is not needed.
To those who are interested in turning all the way up, kindly refer to the image below for all Year of Return events from December to early January.
