Fred Chijindu Inaks Onianwa aka “Fre-D” is back from a brief hiatus releasing music. He returns with his first single of the year “MODE” featuring Port-Hacourt crooner Danas Blowayzz. The 2 have collaborated on a plethora of tracks from Danas’ “Wasup” and “Go Go Go” (both produced by Fre-D) to Fre-D’s Ayé which was produced by Danas. They return with a smooth afrofusion offering, set in Lagos, Nigeria.
Fresh off the back of his nomination at the Ghana Music Awards, South Africa; Fre-D releases a track which itself represents a fusion of the different styles of music he has released thus far. Announced as ‘A piece of the puzzle’, Mode hints at a Fre-D project in the works and sounds like a significant part of a bigger collection.
Mode or Mo de is a Yoruba phrase, which translates to “I’ve arrived”. The song tells the tale of an individual, at peace with his understanding of life and how to enjoy life’s pleasures. The track was produced by Ambili Kalipi aka DJ Flow who is a producer of Namibian descent. The blend of the melodious hook, harmonious instrumental and infectious verses make for a ‘vibey’, enjoyable African tune.
Fre-D, though of Nigerian descent, is based in South Africa. He cites; Jay Z, Angelique Kidjo, Fela Kuti, King Sunny Ade and Oliver de Coque as his major musical influences.
