Remembering The Late Veteran Nigerian Singer, Sound Sultan

In the early hours of Sunday, 11th of July 2021, Kayode Fasasi, brother of Veteran Nigerian singer and songwriter Sound Sultan in a press release statement announced the demise of the musician.

The 44 year old singer at the time of his death had a long battle with Angioimmunoblastic T-Cell Lymphoma. The family also pleaded with the general public for utmost privacy as they deal with this tragic loss. The press statement read;

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of multitalented veteran singer, rapper, songwriter, Olanrewaju Fasasi a.k.a Sound Sultan. He passed away at the age of 44 following a hard-fought battle with Angioimmunoblastic T-Cell Lymphoma. He is survived by his wife, three children and his siblings. We his family will appreciate the utmost privacy as we come to grips with this tragic loss.

Prior to the death of Sound Sultan, the singer was all over the news in May with an alleged throat cancer diagnosed infection. However, his team came out and debunked the rumors. Sound Sultan also came out to say when it’s time to tell his story, it will be true and not false.

Sound Sultan is one of the pioneers of the current Nigerian sound we enjoy, having worked with virtually all the musicians in the music scene, new and old. He has a career total of 7 studio albums and he will definitely be remembered for classic songs like ‘Mathematics’, ‘Area’, and ‘Kokose’ with Wizkid.
